Outrun 2 SP – SEGA Chihiro
OutRun 2 is a 2003 racing game developed by Sega AM2 for arcades. It was the first entry in Sega’s OutRun series in a decade, following OutRunners (1993), and marked the fourth arcade installment. As with previous titles in the series, gameplay revolves around driving a Ferrari sports car and participating in various races and challenges.
The updated version subtitled SP has a new set of fifteen stages set over the Americas, though continues to include the fifteen European-inspired stages from the original OutRun 2. It also adds two new cars, alongside the returning eight models.
Many critics mark this as one of the best driving games of this era. No surprise, as SEGA has always been known for quality racing titles.

This project was 4 years in the making, but the hard work has paid off in a fully functional Outrun 2 SP cabinet!
This is officially part of the tournament rotation and will only look better as I add cosmetic improvements.
Game Tournament Rules
- You must play on Outrun Mode.
- You must use a manual transmission.
- Pick any car you want. Cars to the left are easier. Do harder cars give greater rewards???
- You can choose difficulty while in the game by picking the left or right path at each junction. Left is easy. Right is hard. Easy gives less rewards. Hard will test your mettle, but give a better score if you can win.
- Play until you complete the track or run out of time.
- Your final score at the end of the game is your score for that attempt.
- Beat the current high score to win that game… for now. Anyone else can try to beat your score in the tournament.
- Return at any time to try again.
Game Controls
- Most controls will be displayed on the attract screen.
- Gas is gas. Brake is brake. Shift is shift. Steering is steering.
- Start button starts a game.
- Steering wheel highlights an option.
- Gas pedal selects your option.
Advanced Techniques
The key to handling in this game is the drift. Master this, and you’ll be on the leader board in no time!
